As we begin a new year, I’m excited to move from the role of Lead Researcher to Chief Editor of Research and continue connecting you with the emerging technology transforming our field.
Whether artificial intelligence, blockchain, extended reality, or other developments, technology is hitting the creative sector from all angles. Regardless of where you sit within your organization, you are likely facing questions on how this emerging technology will impact your work. Could it enhance efficiency? Could it deepen user engagement or promote accessibility? Is the use of this technology ethical?
Over the last year, my research has centered around the use of various technologies used to support climate goals in and through arts and cultural institutions - including augmented reality in public art, blockchain for climate action, and tools for carbon emissions tracking. To learn directly from those working in this space, I also had the opportunity to interview a number of professionals on the Tech in the Arts Podcast.
I’m drawn to this work out of excitement for the ways in which technology can be used to amplify the positive impacts of the arts and push artistic innovation. This year, we will continue to share content that sparks conversation and makes you rethink what is possible.
In addition to continued coverage on climate, featured articles will span topics like social justice, finance, accessibility, and more. Just within the next few weeks, you can look out for articles on financial management software, museum access for neurodivergent individuals, and facial animation and motion capture software. We also anticipate a robust series of podcasts this year, which dive deep into changing technology through interviews with professionals in the field.
The Arts Management and Technology Laboratory is a product of collaboration, particularly with Publisher/Executive Director Dr. Brett Crawford, Lead Researcher Ian Hawthorne, Social Media Manager Sofia Akhmanaeva, and contributors from the Master of Arts Management and Master of Entertainment Management programs.
