Being an artist or a gallery manager in the 21st century requires an changing degree of technological know-how and engagement  -- or so it might seem.  In 2008, Technology in the Arts presented some options for free web sites for artists:  http://www.technologyinthearts.org/2008/06/free-web-sites-for-artists/.  Over the past 5 years things have only gotten easier with html5, ipads, and an ever-growing app market, and artists have more options at their fingertips to create online galleries of their very own.  A slick and simple option currently in public beta-test is Works.io. Works.io, founded by Abe Han a designer/developer from Vancouver, Canada and Patrick Urwyler, an art historian and gallery owner from Switzerland, focuses on helping artists manage the two essential elements of their career: their portfolio and their resume/cv. Abe explains the platform as, "An intuitive interface with standardized descriptions, automatically generated layouts with a clean and professional design and instant sharing via social media . . . features that not only save time and help keep things up to date - they set a new standard for artist management."

As life gets more complicated, a simplified tool for a career might be just what is needed. Works.io will have a public presentation - aka “Demo Day” - on June 4, at the MeetFactory near the home office in Prague. Not in Prague?  Artists can start now and try Works.io online.  Give it try then tell them what you think.  And, tell us what other tools you find useful in your career, artist or management tool box.
